Marion, this is part of a Punjabi wedding ceremony. It is called "Maiyaan" (ਮਾਈਯਾਂ) and it performed a day or two before the ceremony when the groom or bride's family (at their respective homes) apply a paste on their(groom/bride) bodies (legs, arms and face) so that they are clean after they take a bath.

The colours used here were rice coloured with cooking colours available from any grocery shop. They came out pretty well in the image, didn't they?
